• What size ensemble do I need for my event?

For small, intimate events, a duo or trio works well and fits easily into smaller spaces. For larger events with many guests, a quartet or full string orchestra carries sound beautifully across a room. Apollo Strings offers string duos, trios, quartets, and full orchestra configurations.

• Where are you based, and do you travel for events?

We’re based in London and typically cover an 80-mile radius, including popular venues across the South East, but we also perform at events worldwide on request. Travel is factored into our pricing, so get in touch with your event details and we’ll be happy to discuss.

• How much does a string quartet cost for a wedding?

Pricing starts from £590 for a duo, £770 for a trio, and £1,010 for a quartet, with the final cost depending on event duration and location. Contact us for a tailored quote.

• What’s included in the price?

Our quoted price includes travel, arrival and set-up time before your event, and an agreed number of sets or hours of music. We are not VAT registered, so the price you’re quoted is the price you pay, with no VAT added.

• How far in advance should I book?

We are currently taking bookings up to two years in advance, and popular dates do tend to fill quickly. We’d recommend booking at least 12 months before your event to guarantee availability, though we are sometimes able to accommodate shorter notice.

• Can you learn a specific song for our ceremony?

Yes, we can very often learn new music for your ceremony. We can often source professional string arrangements of requested pieces, and as long as you are happy to cover the cost of the sheet music (usually around £14 per piece), our musicians will learn and perform it for you at no additional charge. Occasionally, a published arrangement simply doesn’t exist for strings. If that happens, we’ll let you know and suggest some alternatives that capture a similar feel. We ask that music choices are confirmed at least 4 weeks before the big day, so the players have plenty of time to prepare.

• What do the musicians wear?

Our standard attire is elegant, full-length black evening dress with appropriate jewellery. We’re also happy to wear coloured outfits or match your event’s colour scheme on request.

• How long do you typically perform for at an event?

Performance length is entirely flexible and tailored to your event. We typically perform in sets with short breaks, and can discuss timings and format when you get in touch.

• What happens if a musician is ill on the day?

Apollo Strings maintains a trusted network of accomplished deputy musicians, so in the rare event of illness, we’re extremely well placed to arrange seamless cover for your event.

• Do you require a power source or any special equipment?

Our requirements are very minimal, and as we perform acoustically, we do not require access to power.

• Why has my local council asked for my ceremony music choices?

This is a common request, as civil ceremonies must be entirely secular by law, so sacred music and songs with religious references aren’t permitted. Some registrars may also reject instrumental versions of well-known sacred pieces, so we recommend checking your choices early. If anything needs changing, we’ll happily suggest alternatives.
